3 Style Tips for Building a Trendy, Comfortable Wardrobe

October 30, 2015 by Anita Ginsburg 1 Comment

style tipsYou want to look good, but sometimes, you just don’t feel like wearing high heels, a fitted button-down shirt or a tight pair of jeans. You can look good and be comfortable at the same time. Best of all, you can do this without breaking the bank.

Read on for tips on building a trendy, comfortable wardrobe that will leave you feeling as good as you look.

Assess what you currently have

Take a look in your closet and pull out the items that you wear the most.

  • What characteristics do they have in common?
  • Is the fabric soft?
  • Do they have elastic waistbands?

Maybe they are fitted to your curves without being constricting. Make a mental note. Everyone has different criteria that are essential to making them comfortable. Think for a few minutes about what yours are, as these are the characteristics you will be looking for in your new clothes.

Also, this exercise allows you to see what pieces you already have that can be part of your new wardrobe.

Focus on the basics

Your wardrobe will be most versatile if you choose a few basic pieces to be the cornerstones of your outfits.

Most of the time, these will be in neutral colors and will have flattering cuts. For example, a little black dress, a black skirt, khaki capris, a white button-down shirt. A couple of cardigans in neutral colors and shoes in brown and black will go a long way toward making you look great with little effort.

Choose a palette. You might want the bulk of your wardrobe to be navy, white and brown. Or perhaps you prefer black, gray and red. It is best to start with just a few neutral colors, since you can always add more later.

Find the most comfortable clothes you can at the best prices that fall within these parameters.

Build variety with smaller items

Small, inexpensive items and accessories are going to be the spice in your wardrobe. For example, you might want to stock up on tank tops in various colors to wear under button-down shirts or cardigan sweaters.

Another option is to buy chunky necklaces in a variety of styles to pair with your dresses. When you have lots of accessories, you can wear a white top and black pants twice in one week, but no one will be the wiser because you’ll dress up one ensemble with a colorful scarf and pair it with comfy heels, while another day you may choose a vest, a cute belt and a pair of ballerina flats.

By picking up just one or two items at a time, you can develop a trendy, comfortable wardrobe over time in a way that won’t cost you an arm and a leg all at once.

Use coupons for Christopher and Banks to save money on essential clothing items. You can still buy brand-name products at a great price by looking for deals and using coupons. Looking great doesn’t have to be uncomfortable or expensive.
