Child’s Play: How to Keep Up on Your House Cleaning with Small Children

October 22, 2014 by Lizzie Weakley 1 Comment

Cleaning house can be especially difficult when it is coupled with the task of raising small children. However, it is still a job worth undertaking, and with a little preparation, it is entirely possible to make the house look neat and tidy despite the presence of young children.

Clean while they are asleep

During their nap time, you can just take a few minutes to straighten up a few things, whether that involves dusting or getting garbage together for the next pick-up.

It’s probably best not to try doing noisy activities like vacuuming, which are likely to wake the kids up from their slumber.

Just doing little bits of cleaning in small spurts can make a big difference in the overall cleanliness of the house, and nap time is a great opportunity to do just that.

Get the kids to help

If the children are old enough to walk, they are old enough to offer you some help with cleaning, especially when it comes to their own messes. Encouraging them to clean up after themselves early will set up good habits that will make them much more responsible as they get older.

Washing dishes, doing laundry and taking out the garbage are just some of the tasks that can follow them later into developing good housekeeping habits when they are out on their own.

It also gives them a sense of integrity and if you teach them properly you might even find your children helping you with house chores without even having to ask for it. You can also make it into a game so that they will be productive but also have fun doing it.

Hire a cleaning service

If getting the house clean just seems too overwhelming to you with young children underfoot, you can make your life easier by hiring a professional cleaning service. As long as you have the money to spare, why not take advantage of the expertise of those who do this for a living?

You can determine a time that is convenient for you and discuss which parts of the house need to be cleaned and which jobs are most pressing. If you establish a relationship with this company, it will be easy to trust them with your home on a regular basis so that major cleaning jobs don’t need to be a concern for you.

Clearly, there are many different ways of maintaining a tidy home while in the company of small children. While they can be messy, they do not have to be a hindrance in keeping the house in its proper order.
