5 Time-Saving Online Tools for the Time-Conscious

March 11, 2013 by Maricel Rivera 2 Comments

If you’re a sucker for movies, you probably have already heard Gordon Gecko (Michael Douglas, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) say, “One thing I learned in jail is that money is not the prime asset in life. Time is.” Yes, time lost is time lost forever. And for most businesses, time lost is revenue and opportunities lost.

For individuals, time lost is time they can never earn back, especially if it’s time they have failed to spend with family and friends. On that note, here are five online tools that have the power to save you time and make the most of what really matter to you, whether that be in business or life in general:

1. LastPass.com

We all know that passwords are essential to maintain the security of an account. As a rule of thumb, using one password for several different accounts is a big no-no. We may all think it’s smart, but using different passwords for different accounts has its downside, too – it’s easy to forget them.

Then again, writing them down is not smart, either. Somebody just might accidentally get hold of them and compromise all of your sensitive information.

LastPass.com is a browser plug-in that syncs all of your data with the computer you most often use. Once your data is conveniently stored, the only password you need not forget is your LastPass password.

2. HootSuite.com

Social media is an avenue that’s been redefining the marketing landscape nowadays. For a company to attract more followers, build a brand, disseminate information in a fluid manner, distribute content and promote e-commerce, it needs to be where everyone is – well, generally where everyone is.

It’s a given that a lot of people are on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare and several other social networking sites. And in the months and years to come, given the popularity of these sites, more and more networking websites are sure to crop up. That said, managing through all these can be challenging in the long run.

HootSuite.com is an online social media management platform that allows you to track and control all of your social media campaigns in a single hub. HootSuite can be availed either free or pro.

3. JetRadar.com

With the arrival of online ticketing sites and low-cost airlines is the intense competition in the airline industry. Some companies have been compelled to shut down, and those that have managed to stay are now confining their best airfare offers into their own corporate sites or partner third-party sites instead of price-comparison websites.

This, then, results in consumers hopping from one site to another searching for the deals that would best address their travel and budget needs.

JetRadar is a metasearch engine that sifts through hundreds of individual airlines and flight sites for the cheapest airfare tickets available, and makes the data publicly accessible in a single portal. And did I say JetRadar is a tool you can use for free?

4. Gliffy.com

If a picture paints a thousand words, a diagram enhances the meaning of written words. A tool usually employed by architects, engineers, teachers, programmers, to name just a few, a diagram makes conveying messages across relatively easier.

Generally speaking, the human brain responds to pictures, graphs and diagrams faster than just mere words. Imagine how easier that’s going to be if you have a flowcharting service to help you get the job done.

Gliffy.com is an online diagram application that allows you to design floor plans, organizational charts, network layouts and other complicated schematic diagrams with relative ease. Gliffy.com comes as a free service, standard or pro.

5. JoesGoals.com

Goals, objectives, purposes – without them, we’re living a zombie’s life. Come to think of it, even zombies have goals – to eat the house owner’s brains, according to Plants vs. Zombies, at least.

Kidding aside, accomplishments start with goals. And whether we like it or not, we all need a little help achieving those aspirations. One way is to track our goals, and seeing them come to fruition on a daily basis can become a real source of encouragement.

JoesGoals.com is a simple yet powerful online goal tracker that allows you to create, track and share your personal goals. JoesGoals’ goal is simple – for you to take control of your life, have as many goals as you possibly can and keep track of your progress via your daily score.

JoesGoals requires no installation and is 100% free.

Same here, I love online tools, too. Although I haven’t really gotten my arms around the ins and outs of outsourcing, I recognize that it’s one way to leverage our time and resources.

I’m glad you liked the post. And thanks for dropping by, too.
