Be Your Own Boss: 3 Business Endeavors You Can Explore

March 25, 2015 by Meghan Belnap 2 Comments

You have many choices to consider if you want to be your own boss. There are entrepreneurs everywhere who want to start their own companies, but the path to becoming one’s own boss is much more difficult than people might think.

There are three main paths to becoming your own boss, and each has its own challenges.

Start your own consulting business

People who have a skill set that can be useful to businesses and individuals should consider opening their own consulting firm. Your consulting firm is going to help other businesses get work done.

You may work with computers, human resources or accounting. You can offer your services to businesses in your area, or you can offer your services to businesses all over the world.

You will have the ability to manage your company out of your home office, and you will decide when you get to travel. These jobs can be time-consuming, but they allow you to be in complete control of the management of the business.

Join an MLM

There are several MLM opportunities, like those offered by ASEA, out there for you. In addition, there are several makeup and wellness lines that sell products directly from independent contractors that can then be redistributed to customers.

There are many other companies that use the same format to sell household items to customers as it is a tried-and-true method for success. The distributor is the one who purchases all the products directly from the manufacturer, and then sells these products at a slight markup to their customers.

The MLM business model consists of making money as soon as orders are placed and having an active group of distributors who are “below” you in your downline. In some models, you are making money once you sell these products, as well as when your team sells them.

You will be your own boss simply because you decide when you make your sales calls. You can run the enterprise out of your home office, and you can store products in your home. You can take days off because you will make the majority of your sales online or over the phone, and you will be able to leave town at a moment’s notice.

Create a product

When you create a product to sell, you must start a company to sell it. You will be your own boss as you manage the company, but you will need to manage a workforce. This is a different ideal than working as a consultant.

Consultants do not create products or sell them. When you are managing your own product line, you are charged with selling those products.

Selling products requires travel and meeting new people. You will be able to make connections all over the world, and you might even bring in business partners that you just met. You will create a business structure that you must keep up, and this kind of business will require more work than a consultancy or MLM.

Your desire to become your own boss is going to drive you to try any of the three choices above. These choices are going to send you in a new direction in your life. You might want to quit your job to start a new company, or you could work on these projects while you are still working.

The allure of becoming your own boss is strong for almost any worker. The choices listed above are going to provide you with the potential for a massive full-time income, but these options require a good bit of work. You must choose the option that you believe will match your lifestyle and family’s needs best.

Your choice will alter the course of your future, and you may be able to get away from a dead-end job that has caused you to become disillusioned with your work life.
