Work from Home by Trying These Money-Making Ideas

June 12, 2014 by Marlena Stoddard 3 Comments

Set your own hours. Be your own supervisor. Love your job.

Working from home is a great option for people who want more job satisfaction, a flexible schedule, and who are self-motivated. Plus, you can come to work in your pajamas. Sound too good to be true?

Here are three money-making ideas that can get you out of your dead-end job and into making money from the comfort of your own home.

Get paid for things you already do

Chances are, you already perform tasks on a daily or weekly basis that someone out there is getting paid to do.

All you need to do is figure out how you can get paid to do them. Think about your established, everyday routines and look for business opportunities there.

Are you a homemaker? Offer to watch your neighbor’s kids as well as your own. Pick up the neighborhood kids at the end of the school day. Make freezable dinners, fresh bread, or homemade treats for families with working parents (or parents who don’t want to cook every day).

Advertise yourself as a laundry washing and folding service. Offer your services as a tutor. Just be sure to investigate any permits you will need for food handling or other services.

Are you looking to switch from working out of home to working in-home? If you do your own landscaping, pool maintenance, painting, or other household projects, offer your services to your neighbors.

Use commuting time to plan projects, make calls, or brush up on your useful skills by listening to a book on tape.

Join a company you are passionate about

From custom jewelry to essential oils, from cooking supplies to weight loss aids, more and more companies are offering the opportunity to work from home.

Some, like Motor Club of America, don’t require you to do anything except sign up other people under you. Others, like Crazy Wrap Life, allow you to work from home by selling their product through catalogs and in-home parties.

Many companies hire employees to work as independent distributors, consultants, or sellers. The trick is finding a company that you believe in and that treats their at-home workers well.

Talk to people who already work for the company and read testimonials. Check out the product, the rewards offered, and your potential earnings. No matter what your passion is, there is a company that wants to put you to work sharing that passion with their clients.

Put your skills to work

Think about what you’re good at. Yes, you. Sit down and list your skills. List everything, even things you aren’t sure can earn you money like “good listener” or “crafty” or “organized.” Then, take a look at your list.

If you’re a good listener, consider working as a phone communications specialist for a company. Many companies have the option of making sales calls from the comfort of your home.

If you’re good at crafts, consider attending craft fairs or selling your masterpieces to the vast online market. If you’re organized, think about starting an advice blog to help other people like you simplify their lives.

If you can’t think of a way to use the skills you’ve listed to earn money, never fear! There are myriad lists available online of work-at-home options, and the skills they require, such as The Work at Home Woman’s “99 Work at Home Careers for Women.”

There are tons of opportunities for at-home work. The trick is finding what works for you. Make your list and then start researching. No matter what your skills are, there is a market for them. So go out and find it!
