What’s Your Style? 8 Ways to Pick the Perfect Look for Your Home

For some people, picking the perfect style for their home is easy. They know exactly what they want and how to find great pieces to make their house absolutely gorgeous.

However, if you’re wondering how to take your home from bland to beautiful, or simply feel the need to change up your decor, here are some easy ways to make your home come to life.

Pay attention to what you wear

Chances are, what you’re drawn to in colors and patterns will be a good idea of what you’re drawn to in design. Do you love floral, stripes or tribal prints? Can you not get enough of neutrals?

If your wardrobe pieces aren’t everything you love, pay attention to what stores you enjoy browsing and what types of styles you would love to wear.

Look through your camera roll

You’ll get an idea of what you’re drawn to with the pictures you take. If you love a great sunset, gorgeous beach view or green flowery field, you might enjoy these colors and textures in your home.

Take a look through your snapshots and notice the hues that keep popping up.

Decide on a color palette

From what you’ve learned about the colors and patterns you adore, it’s important to decide on a few colors that will repeat throughout your home decor. Deciding on a color palette limits your choices and allows you to follow a theme in each room.

Pick at least three colors that you never tire of. Think of how the colors will look in natural sunlight in the day, as well as at night by lamplight.

Get core pieces

Once you know your color palette, it’s time to think about core pieces that complete your home’s interior design. This is the prime period to decide on a great sofa that will look nice in your living room area.

To make the perfect respite, you might want to get a new bed and bed frame. These are pieces you’ll have for years to come, so choose something you love.

Accessorize

Now that you have the basics done, get ready to accessorize. Place mirrors, lamps and pictures in different places around your home. Finish a craft project you’ve been meaning to do, and put it out on display.

Rugs and pillows warm up a room quickly. Go to the thrift store and get some more ideas.

Outfit the windows

Don’t forget the windows. They need love and attention, too. Dress up your windows with interior plantation shutters. Place lightweight drapes on your windows to instantly give a romantic feel to any of your rooms. Don’t be afraid of letting them go all the way down to the floor.

Breathe some life into your home

It’s the little things that make a home come alive. Get some gorgeous vases and decorate side tables with fresh flowers. Get potted plants and place them in corners of the room. Frame pictures of candid moments and hang them on blank walls.

Recognize the progress

It takes time to make a home feel authentically yours. If something doesn’t work, you can always change it up with color, put it in another spot or get rid of it completely. It doesn’t have to look picture-perfect. Feel free to rotate pieces and colors out during different seasons.

Getting the perfect look isn’t always easy, but it’s not as hard as you think. Have some fun and incorporate your personality into your home. Where you live should rejuvenate you each day.
