Having Productivity Issues? Provide a Breather for Your Employees.

July 5, 2013 by Edward Morrison 2 Comments

It is necessary for business owners and even employees to have breathing space in their office. This allows them to break away from the daily monotonous business to-dos.

Moreover, this might help them spur creative juices every once in a while, that may lead to innovative business solutions. This is why it is necessary for them to change their business routine regularly and adapt a few changes from time to time.

Here are a few tips on how you and your employees can be even more productive:

#1. Change the layout.

I think it is a good idea to change your perspective every so often. Some people find it hard to focus on their work if situated in a fixed space. Sometimes, it gets too boring to be placed in an office desk where all you can see are your in-out documents. It’s good to have a refresher by moving your desk from one place to another.

But this does not necessarily mean moving to an entire remote space or different office floor. Remember that you have to consider your files, equipment and other devices when moving. So make sure that changing your office layout is achievable.

#2. Go on quick break.

Though it may not be a grandiose getaway, you and your employees can benefit greatly from a quick vacation. Going to a different place provides you an opportunity to think of fresh ideas. Why do you think business officials conduct their meetings in different beautiful places?

This is a must for them since they will spend an entire day or even week to discuss serious matter. What a pleasant way to end an information-overload day by seeing beautiful natural or man-made sights and scenes. So on the following day, they are ready to take part again in an intellectual discussion.

#3. Check social sites.

I don’t know why some businesses block social media sites in their office. I get it that they only want to regulate the sites that their employees can access. However, not allowing them to check these sites even for just a few minutes or hours is too tough. If you really want to limit the use of these sites, you could allocate a limited time for your employees to access these.

Or you can block apps or games on these sites that contribute greatly to employees’ distractions. Moreover, it is also necessary for your business to have your own accounts on these social sites, especially on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus – three of the most popular social sites.

You can post your contact information on these sites, primarily your official business email address, your exact business address, business office telephone number, voice mail and toll-free number from providers like RingCentral, and if needed, your map. This way will be easier for your customers to contact and locate you.

#4. Personalize your office space.

Family and friends are great motivators for a person to work harder. If you don’t allow your employees to personalize their own office space, they might feel too uncomfortable and might end up too stressed out. Allow them to personalize their desks by letting them add pictures of their loved ones or put personal items that may help them perform their tasks easily.

Conclusion

These are just few suggestions on how you can help your employees break away from the repetitive office tasks. Giving them a breather will allow them to think of creative and new ideas for your business. Besides, it is important that you consider the welfare of your employees. Remember that they are the “machines” that keep your business going.

Minsan nakakarindi/nakakataranta na mga boss sa trabaho. Kaya ako, pag binubungangaan ng client ko, di ko na lang ganu pinapansin.

Hahaha, Monmon. I feel for you, girl. But sometimes, we also have to keep in mind that these bosses are also fighting their own battles – deadlines, productivity metrics, and the like. It’s good that you’d rather play it cool than stress over the situation.

Great to see you here today, and thanks for the comment. 🙂
