Online Worker Earnings to Grow More, According to Observers

August 5, 2013 by Edward Morrison 5 Comments

A sizable portion of the professional workforce is grabbing online job opportunities globally. At the current rate of online hiring that’s happening, global industrial observers predict that by 2020, 10% of professional talent will work online as telecommuters.

As to why this is so could be gleaned from several factors that emphasize the role of online technologies with regards to work preferences among an emergent generation of professionals.

Online job platforms are attracting a millennial workforce owing to the following reasons:

  • Reliable productivity and quality

Companies and business owners are embracing telecommuter work setups as an enabler of options that negate the limitations of geographically-based hiring criteria.

Company owners now have a global pool of professional talents to choose from and could hire and pay qualified people from whatever region in the world.

Collaborative work simply happens online and not through office workstations. Productivity, efficiency and work quality remain topnotch and reliable.

  • Mutually beneficial set-up

Online tech like cloud computing, business VoIP and mobile devices have made it doable, practical and beneficial for companies and freelance pros alike.

All that companies have to do is to establish an online connectivity with workers like extension networks and cloud apps and enterprise software to make real-time collaboration possible.

Cloud-based telecom, for example, is a core service to be found from any RingCentral VoIP provider. Companies now find it more practical to meet and work together with telecommuters online than travel for business just to meet with people face-to-face.

Cloud-based tech negates distance and location while heightening interactive connectivity in real-time.

  • Availability of talent

There is a highly qualified, competent, and talented professional workforce that’s available and amenable to telecommuter work setups who love the kind of money and the career options open to them.

Owing to this emergent workforce, there are also various web-based online job networks that offer these workers the job opportunities they seek.

It is not unusual for online freelancers with memberships to web-based job networks to be open to biddings for various jobs with pay rates truly commensurate to their qualifications and talents.

More viable mobility

As businesses worldwide become more and more interconnected via web-based tech, people working in companies also become more and more easily accessible from within and away from workstation situations.

Business VoIP has effectively rendered the typical employee or business owner a mobile-prone professional capable of conducting business as a “traveling workstation.”

Mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and phablets with the same PC capabilities for paperwork, correspondence and telecom efficiently extend the workplace to environs never before reached by workstations 10 or 20 years ago.

This telecommuter work environment, whether by choice or circumstance, has become the norm and until more sophisticated technology gets introduced to herd back employee preferences back to workstation situations, online workers would maintain their preference for careers as online freelancers.

In their business book, mobility is viability.

Earnings growth rates

Pioneering American online job platform Elance studies reveal that current growth rates for global earnings are pegged to grow by 40% to 50% annually.

Based from ongoing online job offer postings being made on a daily basis, there happens to be 1.1 million of job posts being made by over 500,000 companies worldwide.

The staggering amount of options that could become open to online workers in the coming years therefore would be harder for businesses and even workers to ignore. In 2012 alone, $200M has already been collected out of the $700M combined earnings of 2.3 million Elance members.

These figures, once competent workstation employees know them, could be enough to get their minds wandering elsewhere for online professional options.

I hear you on that one, Mia. Then again, with the Internet, that doesn’t have to be the case. I know a few over 50 who are still doing pretty well online. The secret I guess is to keep yourself armed with the necessary online skills.
