The Cat, the Dog and the Mayor

September 28, 2011 by Maricel Rivera 7 Comments

I am not a cat person, but I don’t hate cats. I’m afraid of cats, but every time I see a stray cat alone and crying, my heart goes out to the poor thing. My fear, if indeed that is fear, of cats started when I accidentally stepped on one while doing the laundry one weekend.

The cat bit me to save its life, and I ended up in the emergency room one day later.

That part of my leg where the cat’s teeth left their marks went red and swollen, and some well-meaning people at work advised me to get an anti-rabies vaccination ASAP. The word “rabies” undid me. My co-workers didn’t even have to tell me twice.

I immediately found my way to the ER, only to be subjected to a number of painful injections that left me cursing the day that little cat was born.

Pacman and Jinky
One year ago, after moving to our new home, my husband got us a Jack Russell Terrier. We named her Jinky. My husband insisted that our cute little dog looked a lot like Manny Pacquiao’s dog, Pacman, hence, the name Jinky.

Today, while doing some online browsing, I accidentally came upon a post regarding Zynga’s Cityville’s availability on Google+. I had to smile. Indeed, gone were those days when I was such a game enthusiast that I probably spent more time playing than sleeping.

There were days when I would be off to work with just a few hours of sleep.

Why, there was a lot to do! I had to tend to my virtual farm, my virtual restaurant, and I was mayor of a budding city. I want my farm and restaurant to be bigger and better than others, and I lived for the day my beloved city outclassed everyone else’s.

Unbelievable.

Looking back, I’m glad to have broken the habit. But if I dare to be honest now, sometimes I sigh whenever I receive mail updates telling me that Matutina, my Pet Society little miss, misses me. I have blocked all gaming applications that had taken a lot of my time in the past.

Yes, I miss Matutina, too. But Jinky, our pet dog, more than makes up for the loss.

Jinky, looks so cute! I have 3 mini pinscher dogs, and I make sure that I play with them regularly… I don’t treat them as pets, I treat them as part of my life, as family members! Tnx for sharing, Mommy gel! =)

I’m more of a dog lover here although I also wanted to have a pet cat. Kaso lang, allergic ako sa mga hairs nila kaya di ko sila ma-cuddle ahahah.

Anyway, there’s a picture circulation this weekend about an abused cat… >.< I hate those guys! If only we have a firm law to stop those abusive act. I even made a picture challenge about cats to divert the attentions, instead of seeing the poor animal... Glad to know you were able to recover from cat-phobia Cel.

@ Tristan … me, too … I’ll go for a dog in a heartbeat … pero ‘yong maliliit na breed lang, just like our Jinky. I think I’m beginning to like cats na din, little by little, I guess.

Those guys in that picture with the poor little animal are sick. I hope they realize what they’re doing.
