7 Survival Tips for Going on a Business Trip

May 23, 2014 by Kandace Heller Leave a Comment

Normal business trips can easily turn into chaos on the road or through the air. You could run out of food, run out of gas or become fatigued before your important meeting. Preparing for a trip well is the only way to prevent surprises.

Review these six tips that will help you survive any business trip:

#1. Pack light

The most important tip to survive any trip is to pack lightly. No matter who you are going to meet, you do not have to carry many pieces of luggage.

If the flight is late, you should not have to worry about excessive unpacking. Also, you worry less about losing important items and never getting them back.

#2. Review the country’s etiquette rules

International travel carries a number of serious risks. You have to consider the risk of offending people by not conforming to society’s rules. The more exotic the culture, the harder it is to conform.

No matter how long the trip is, know how to behave in public and private. Represent yourself and your country well by understanding the social etiquette of another country.

#3. Learn the currency

Know the currency that exists in your destination country. You will get fair, affordable deals for all purchases. Fortunately, credit cards are guaranteed to work in foreign countries. At banks, trade in cash and create travelers’ checks. When you do business, you make purchases, so get the currency right before you go.

#4. Get the documentation

Many people forget to get the documents required to travel outside of the country. You need a passport that shows your identity. On this document, get a visa stamp that allows you to stay in countries for designated periods of time. Not all countries want to see these visa stamps. Take care of this task for months before you leave for the trip.

#5. Find your accommodations

Be sure to find a hotel that is close enough to your business meetings so you won’t be rushed throughout the day. You will want to find one of the hotels in downtown Ottawa that offers a stress-free environment such as Cartier Place Suite Hotel. Doing so will increase your potential for success.

#6. Pack clothes properly

As you travel on a business trip, pack a collection of good-looking clothes for the meetings. Press the clothes beforehand and fold them carefully to avoid making wrinkles. Save time when you learn how to pack pressed clothes properly.

#7. Make purchases wisely

Traveling involves making reservations for cars, hotels, planes and restaurants. Work with a travel agent who finds the best deals for months ahead of time. If you want to do the work yourself, research a few product comparison websites.

Go on popular sites that are known for finding reliable, affordable providers. Agents work well for procrastinators or people struggling with their travel needs.

For countless professionals, travel is a requirement to do business. There are conventions, conferences, meetings and other gatherings that take place all over the world. When you plan for a business trip, you have to know what to pack, how to pack and how to prevent disasters. Review tips that help you prepare for a trip of any length and to any location in the world.
